Alexis Wainwright joined 6 News as a Multimedia Journalist in October 2017. She comes from Bowie, MD, and is excited to move to Pennsylvania. Her passion to become a journalist began early in high school, where she served as anchor for the morning announcements.
Alexis attended Northwestern University for graduate school and majored in Journalism. There, she was a freelance reporter for multiple stations around the country. Highlights of her experience there include traveling to South Africa on a reporting trip and interning for WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C. During college, Alexis also worked for the Medill News Service in Chicago then moved to D.C. to report on Capitol Hill. In 2016, Alexis received her B.S. in Journalism from North Carolina A&T State University, where she hopes to teach journalism one day. Alexis interned with Greensboro News & Record, WGHP Fox 8 News and Technical Event Management. She also served as sports editor for her school newspaper and was reporter and anchor for the school’s TV station.
In her free time, Alexis likes to travel, watch sports, enjoy new foods and spend time with her family and friends. She also loves to work out and volunteers as a coach with recreational cheerleading.
