Two-A-Days: Southern Huntingdon
2017 INTER-COUNTY CONFERENCE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW:
Bellwood-Antis will once again be the team to beat in the Inter-County Conference. The Blue Devils were unbeaten in conference play a year ago, but an early exit from the playoffs should have them motivated to extend their postseason.
Moshannon Valley was the only team to score in double-digits against Bellwood in 2016. The Black Knights will look to improve on their 7-4 mark.
Expectations are high for Juniata Valley after a 7-5 campaign. A playoff victory at home should provide a springboard.
Claysburg-Kimmel will need to get off to a fast start to set the tone early. The Bulldogs started 0-4 in 2016 but can now lean on the experience gained during those early season setbacks.
Southern Huntingdon could be a surprise team in the Inter-County Conference. The Rockets return 16 letterman for head coach Ryan Garlock.
Mount Union ended its 2016 season on a five-game losing skid but still qualified for the playoffs. Returning several skill position players could help them avoid a late-season letdown.
Northern Bedford has become a consistent competitor in the conference and seem destined for another playoff berth while delaying a rebuilding year.
Everett competed in every game in 2016, but after graduating 14 seniors will rely on underclassmen to learn on the fly this season.
Williamsburg made the playoffs a year ago but are hungry to extend that postseason life after suffering an upset loss at home.
West Branch won the final game of the 2016 season and that victory should serve as a confidence booster to kick off this new campaign.
After a winless 2015 season, Tussey Mountain got on the board last year. That lone victory will be the rallying point and motivation in 2017.
Tussey Mountain's victory came against Glendale, a similar program trying to form an identity. The rebuilding process will continue this coming season.
