Officials warn of brush fire dangers
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) —
As the end of winter draws near, melting snow is giving way to dry leaves, twigs and other brush.
In Bedford County Friday, video from Sky View 6 shows brown trees and grass with a few remaining patches of snow.
Fire officials say it doesn't take much for a brush fire to start in these conditions.
Thursday there were reports of two small brush fires in Somerset County.
"Please be cognizant of the fact that even though the temperatures aren’t as warm as they could be, we certainly are in that time of the year that that unexpected brush fire could jump up on us," said Richland Fire Chief Bob Heffelfinger.
Officials say to be careful when burning brush in your yard or enjoying an outdoor fire.
