ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — An Altoona Area High School special education teacher, facing charges for sending explicit pictures and a video to an underage student, has resigned from her position.
The Altoona Area School District Board of Directors accepted the resignation of Holly Metzler, 46, at a meeting Monday. She has been on administrative leave since before charges were filed in January.
Police say officials were tipped off last November that she was having some sort of relationship with a 17-year-old student. Metzler and the student denied any inappropriate contact between each other, according to her arrest affidavit.
Later, investigators say, several students reported seeing pictures and videos of Metzler on the 17-year-old’s phone that he got through Snapchat. Police say they later discovered two pictures and a video of a naked woman that they said the student identified as Metzler on his phone.
Police say the two never had a physical sexual relationship.
Metzler is facing several felony charges, including corruption of minors and unlawful contact with minors. She is free on a $25,000 unsecured bail.
Metzler will be formally arraigned in Blair County Court on Friday.
