The Sitting Bulls sled hockey team played against Penn State Altoona’s hockey team Saturday.

Both teams played on sleds at the Galactic Ice Arena.

The team gives those with disabilities not only a physical outlet but also an opportunity to play a sport they can play fairly with others who view them as equal.

The Sitting Bulls won 7-1 but the assistant coach said that’s not what the game is about. They are more focused on having a good time.

“Events like this are a blast because it brings us back to what we started the team for – to go out and have fun,” assistant coach Mike Fitzgerald said. “I mean, the competition is great and the kids enjoy it but days like this is just to have fun and to make new friends.”
