Senior citizens compete in Valentine's Day hug competition
STATE COLLEGE -- The Village at Penn State Senior Living Community residents were struck by Cupid’s arrow on Valentine’s Day, competing to see who could give the most hugs.
Residents who gave out a hug got a signature on a heart-shaped name tag. Participants with the most signatures won prizes.
The “hug-fest” included musical performances of love songs and a sweetheart luncheon to honor the best huggers.
Family members and staff joined in on the fun.
Residents said the celebration is a good way to forget about their problems and focus on what really matters.
“It means that somebody cares about you and that I care about other people,” said resident Bob Vogt. “It gives me the opportunity to maybe make them feel a little bit better about themselves.”
Residents said that despite it being a friendly competition, they still take it seriously and play to win.
