SCI Somerset corrections officer released from hospital, inmate transferred
SOMERSET, Pa – The lockdown at SCI Somerset, which was implemented Friday after a corrections officer was assaulted by an inmate, is expected to be lifted Monday.
A Department of Corrections spokesperson confirmed that the assault happened at the institution at 2:40 p.m.
The corrections officer was taken to the hospital and was later released.
Officials said the inmate involved in the incident was transferred to a different prison.
State police said they are investigating the incident.
In February, corrections officer Mark Baserman was killed during an inmate attack.
Paul Kendrick was charged with the fatal attack and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in that case.
