Preparations underway, excitement builds for annual Festival of Arts
STATE COLLEGE – Preparations are underway Monday for the 52nd Annual Central Pennsylvania Festival of Arts in State College.
The event features tons of fun for residents and visitors. It doesn't start until later this week, but booths are already starting to set up in the downtown area.
A decorate frog that is big and green is just one of the many new things that will be on display for the festival this year. It's a special frog set up for kids when they come out.
Festival crews and vendors have been out here since 7 a.m. setting up and things are starting to come together now.
Overall, the excitement is building up for opening day on Thursday.
"We'll probably be here until 6 or 7 tonight,” hardscape worker Bob Rupert said. “Then, some guys will be in doing the final details tomorrow and then it will be ready for the kids on Wednesday."
Crews in the downtown area are working hard ahead of the annual Festival of Arts. The set-up isn’t that easy.
"We almost start after we tear this one down, we start preparing for the next year and then we keep things rolling as things change throughout and then we make a few final decisions a month or two before the event," Rupert said.
The event has week long activities from arts and crafts, to food and fun for kids.
"I know it gets to be a very populated area up here and it brings all kinds of new people into the State College area so they can see what's going on," Rupert said.
This time last year, hundreds of people packed the streets.
More than 300 of the country’s best artists sold their work in a special sidewalk sale.
There will be live entertainment, street painting, sand sculptures and more.
"We dial in all the details and about two days from now it’s just going to look magnificent," Rupert said.
The excitement has already started to build up, tons of people have been stopping by checking out the
area to see what's what.
The arts fest kicks off Thursday around 10 a.m., but Children and Youth Day will be on Wednesday.
