Oldest living American, Huntingdon resident passes away
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The oldest living American citizen, Huntingdon resident Delphine Gibson, passed away Wednesday.
Officials at the Robert D. Heath Funeral confirmed the passing.
Gov. Tom Wolf sent his condolences out in a tweet for Gibson, who died at the age of 114.
"Born in 1903, she live in PA for more than 90 years. She was an incredible Pennsylvanian and she will be missed," read a portion of the tweet.
Gibson was born Aug. 17, 1903 in South Carolina.
She moved from her community in South Carolina to Mount Union in Huntingdon to work in a brickyard.
Since 2004, she has resided at Huntingdon Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.
Gibson attributed her longevity to good food, her faith and her church family.
A service will be held for Gibson at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Baptist Church.
