CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — For motorists here in the Centre County region, it seems like North Atherton Street has been torn up just short of forever.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation provided an update on the project Tuesday.
Officials said they are ahead of schedule, which is surprising news regarding the North Atherton Street work.
Despite the rainy fall construction season, and the massive size of the project, which includes rebuilding, or relocating water, sewer and various communication lines, the work is moving along.
Next up, though, is a winter construction shutdown that officials said will last until March.
They said they hope that preliminary repaving can begin next spring on North Atherton, although the entire project isn’t expected to be completed until October.
After that, the next Atherton work zone is from Park Avenue to Westerly Parkway.
Officials said it’s a two-year project, but they’d like to get it done in one.
During the upcoming winter shutdown, all North Atherton Street lanes will remain open.
