No shadow: Phil predicts early spring

Crowd gathers and celebrates just minutes before Phil's prediction.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa.— In a rare event, Pennsylvania's most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, did not see his shadow Saturday morning, signifying an early end of winter, his handlers said.

Thousands of people crowded into Gobbler’s Knob, just outside town, a tradition celebrated since 1887.

Phil has only predicted an early Spring only 19 times in 133 years.
