Mike Pence heading to Pittsburgh to support Rothfus campaign

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Vice President Mike Pence is heading to Pittsburgh to throw his support behind third-term Republican Rep. Keith Rothfus's congressional campaign.

Pence will participate in an event at the airport for Rothfus, who's facing a tough challenge in November from Democrat Conor Lamb.

The boundaries of Pennsylvania's congressional districts are changing with Nov. 6 election. Pennsylvania's Supreme Court ordered new boundaries to replace the ones it ruled were unconstitutionally gerrymandered by Republicans.

The new 17th District is considered a tossup.

Pence's visit to Pittsburgh comes days after hundreds of protesters gathered in a Philadelphia park near a hotel where Pence was speaking at a fundraiser.

Many decried the administration's policy on migrants that's resulted in the separation of parents and children at the border.

Later Saturday, Pence heads to South Carolina for an event for Republican Gov. Henry McMaster.
