Longtime state House Rep. George dies at age 89

HOUTZDALE – Longtime state House Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-Houtzdale, died Friday afternoon at age 89, officials said.

George represented portions of Centre County and Clearfield County in the 74th District during his 38 years in office from 1974-2012.

“He was tough, compassionate, phenomenal, one of a kind,” former campaign worker David Wulderk said. “He stuck up for the working families and the environment.’

George graduated from Houtzdale High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

He also was the former mayor of Houtzdale.

A viewing for friends and family of George is Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home in Houtzdale. His funeral will take place Monday at 11 a.m.
