Two local Boy Scouts planning to build a monument to first responders are asking for the community's support.

Last month, Timothy Green and Ian Smilnak presented county commissioner with their proposal to erect a memorial honoring the 16 Blair County firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty.

The memorial will also highlight the sacrifice and hard work of emergency medical services personnel.

Green sent letters to 95 businesses and organizations in the Altoona area asking for support, but he says the project has less than one-third of the necessary funding.

Green hopes the community sees the value in honoring first responders and the significance of the memorial's location.

If you would like to donate to the project you can send your donations to 408 East Cherry Ave. in Altoona or you can visit the boys' GoFundMe page here.
