ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Altoona students are learning positive character traits through drumming.
Students at Penn-Lincoln and Ebner Elementary Schools are participating in a program called "Drumming up Character.”
Steve Campbell led the program, teaching students about self-confidence, the importance of teamwork and a better understanding of world cultures.
The kids also had the chance to learn about drumming.
"The students, all grades, kindergarten through sixth, experience success with making the music immediately,” said Teri Myers, elementary music teacher for the Altoona Area School District.
“And it's one of the great skills that you can learn with a drum, that doesn't come quite so easily with some other instruments."
Once students complete the program they will have a chance to participate in family drum night, performing for their parents and families.
The program was made possible through donations from the Altoona Area School District Foundation.
