Johnstown Symphony Orchestra music director renews contract

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Johnstown Symphony Music Director maestro James Blachly has renewed his contract.

Blachly has accepted a three-year renewal that will run through 2021. He has led the symphony orchestra the past two years.

“I am honored by the invitation of the board of the Johnstown Symphony to continue my tenure as music director of this extraordinary orchestra," said Blachly.

"Our first two years together have been a remarkable and rewarding experience, full of passionate performances, new ideas and enthusiastic audiences."

Under his leadership, the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra has seen a 39 percent increase in season ticket sales and has added twice as many shows to meet audience demand.

Blachly is the 12th music director in the 90-year history of the orchestra.
