Johnstown police Detective Daniel Fisher resigns
Johnstown police Detective Daniel Fisher, 44, has been charged with obstruction and hindering apprehension and has resigned, the Johnstown Police Department said.
According to police, Fisher was placed on administrative leave after being accused of lying to get special treatment for a confidential informant he was secretly dating.
Investigators said Fisher told prosecutors that the informant had given police a lot of important information about different cases, but she actually gave very little information.
Officials said that because of Fisher's claim, the informant’s sentence for a DUI arrest had been lowered.
Last year, Fisher saw the woman getting arrested for public drunkenness and stopped the arrest, police said.
Investigators said Fisher denied the claims but eventually admitted to the secret relationship and the lies he told prosecutors.
Fisher has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
