The United States Attorney’s office announced Thursday that Jay Reed, 58, was sentenced to 70 years in prison, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release for the sexual exploitation of minors.

He was sentenced on Tuesday, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

Reed was initially charged in July 2015 for the rape and sexual assault of four minors.

During the investigation, state police said they took a cellphone, a computer, and other electronic devices that belonged to Reed from his home in Three Springs.

Reed pleaded guilty to all counts in February 2017, when he admitted to producing and possessing child porn that was found on several of his devices, according to the release.

The defense argued sleep apnea or brain dysfunction may have caused Reed to rape, molest and photograph the four victims who were between ages 9 and 13 and later wrote letters trying to convince witnesses not to talk, according to the release.

The release said that in May Reed also pleaded in the Court of Common Pleas of Huntingdon County to three counts of rape, but that sentencing date has not been scheduled.
