GJSD addresses bed bug concerns, 'no infestation'
JOHNSTOWN – Greater Johnstown School District sent a letter to parents regarding concerns over bed bugs inside its schools.
Superintendent Michael Vuckovich said the district does not have an infestation of bed bugs in any of its buildings.
The letter was sent out after dozens of parents took to social media about concerns of bed bugs at the schools.
It was in September when school officials said pests, primarily fleas, were found inside the middle school.
Vuckovich said in the letter, “The safety of our students and staff is always our primary concern. If at any time their safety is in jeopardy, we will act immediately to protect them and inform you.”
Officials said in the past two weeks, there have been four cases of bed bugs confirmed in the high school.
Vuckovich said staff followed protocol in every case to ensure students' safety.
He said pest control was at the school Thursday and found no bed bugs.
