Danone North America announced the opening of a new building and addition to its assembly line at the company's DuBois location Friday.

Officials said the plant on Oklahoma Salem Road is the largest production facility making plant-based yogurt alternatives in the country.

"Danone is a world leading food and beverage company and our mission is to bring health through food to as many people as possible," said Plant Director Chad Stone. "We have many yogurt products made from milk but plant-based yogurt is what is mainly made in DuBois."

The facility currently makes several dairy-free products, including Silk yogurt alternatives and So Delicious Dairy Free yogurt alternatives.

The multi-million dollar expansion includes the addition of a new building that will produce Vega yogurt alternatives and nutritional protein powders.

"In 2018, we saw an 18 percent increase in demand for the Vega brand powders," Stone said.

Stone said since January, the company has been training 68 new employees to handle the powder production.

"We're proud to be a part of the DuBois community where we are now making several of our beloved plant-based products," said Stone.

Stone said the Vega brands are available in stores such as Whole Foods Market or Amazon.
