HENRY CLAY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — A Somerset County man was found dead in a Fayette County pond Monday morning, authorities said.
According to state police, 30-year-old Patrick Keating, of Confluence, was found submerged in the water sometime after 9:30 a.m. near an access road along Sickle Ridge Road, in Henry Clay Township.
Water rescue teams at the scene said Keating was found over 40 feet away from a vehicle that was also in the water.
According to TribLIVE, Keating was pronounced dead after 3:30 p.m. Rescue officials told TribLIVE divers could only be in the water for 11 minutes at a time because of the low water temperatures.
Police have not said how Keating or the vehicle ended up in the water but will continue investigating.
According to police, a preliminary investigation attributed Keating's death to an accidental drowning. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, according to TribLIVE.
