The Centre County District Attorney's Office is stepping up drug enforcement with plans to hire a county drug detective.

It's just the latest effort to provide new resources in the county in dealing with our ongoing opioid crisis and other illegal drug-related issues.

Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna has been on the job for a little over a year, and hiring a county drug detective has been one of his top priorities even before he was elected.

The DA has been very open in terms of new initiatives from his office to help both the police and public in dealing with drug abuse issues.

On the Centre County District Attorney’s Office website, there's an application form for organizations and others to apply for funding grants tied to drug prevention and enforcement from the county's drug forfeiture fund money and resources seized in drug investigations. How much is in the fund? You can find the latest bank account statements on the DA website.

Now the hiring of a county drug detective will provide more help for law enforcement countywide, with the DA stressing it’s another resource during our deadly drug crisis.

Funding for the new, drug detective position was approved in this year's county budget.

Cantorna say the new drug detective will be multi-tasking because one of the job responsibilities will involve also working on unsolved murder cases in the county.
