Cambria County sheriff warns of phone scam
EBENSBURG, Pa. -- Cambria County Sheriff Bob Kolar is warning residents about a jury duty warrant scam in the area.
Kolar said a person is pretending to be a deputy sheriff and is telling potential victims a bench warrant has been issued for their arrest for failure to appear at jury selection.
Kolar said the person is telling victims that in order to resolve the warrant they must pay fees.
The sheriff is telling residents the Sheriff's Office never takes payments over the phone to vacate a warrant.
The sheriff said if you receive such a call to hang up and call the Sheriff's Office to verify whether any warrant has been issued.
