An Altoona priest has been placed on leave due to an investigation into alleged misconduct with a minor that occurred years ago, the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown announced in a release Wednesday.

The release says 68-year-old Monsignor Robert Mazur was placed on leave by Bishop Mark Bartchak and will not be allowed to function as a priest and will reside at a place where he will have no contact with children.

The situation has been reported to police, the release says.

Mazur has served as Rector of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona since 1995 and as Administrator of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Altoona since 2015, the release says.

“My thoughts and prayers are with all survivors of sexual abuse and their loved ones,” said Bartchak. “I assure the faithful of Altoona-Johnstown that I remain committed to protecting children, to supporting those who have been harmed, and to helping our diocese find healing and peace.”

The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown says they urge anyone with information about misconduct involving children to report it to police immediately. Information can also be reported to the Pennsylvania ChildLine at 1-800-932-0313
