Altoona locomotive shop replaces rare 110-ton mechanism
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) —
An Altoona locomotive shop recently replaced an iconic piece of equipment.
Norfolk Southern crews recently installed a 110-ton turntable at the Juniata shops.
It's a new version of a now rare mechanism.
The turntable at the railroader’s museum was installed in 2006 and gives visitors a glimpse into Altoona's history.
The new turntable has a 400-ton capacity.
Officials hope it will assist in engine maintenance for the foreseeable future.
