SOUTHMONT BOROUGH – The Southmont Volunteer Fire Department will kick off its annual jubilee event on Monday.

Event coordinators said they try to add something new every year to make the event fun.

The department said the kitchen will feature some new items such as hand dipped ice cream.

They will also host a nightly food event to help showcase some of the local restaurants in the area,

Kids and adults can also buy tickets for some of the amusement rides. There will be about 10 to 15 rides for residents to choose from.

Mike Butler from the fire department said he can remember the first jubilee from 45 years ago.

He said funds from this event help the fire department buy new equipment which helps the community in the long run.

“The money we raise goes to equipment. Our fire engine is 34 years old, and it needs to be replaced. That's one of our main goals, and we're working on that.”

The jubilee will kick off at the ball field along State Street at 5 p.m. Monday and will run through Saturday.

The jubilee parade will happen on June 1 at 7 p.m. and will feature classic cars, motorcycles, and dancing groups.
