YORK, Pa. -- A senior, Patrick Farves, 18, at Central York High School was in trouble after asking Miss America to prom during a question and answer session at school.

Farves received three days of in-school suspension because he asked Nina Davuluri Thursday.

Davuluri was at the school to talk with students about diversity and the importance of science, technology, engineering and math studies.

Farves had a plastic flower and asked the questions while Davuluri laughed and the students cheered.

School officials heard about Farves' plan in advance and said not to pop the question. He has since apologized for the disruption.

The school said Farves was disciplined for breaking the rules and there was no excuse for the incident.

Davuluri is asking the school to reconsider the punishment of Farves.

She also said her travel schedule prevented her from attending the dance with Farves.
