Bishop Carroll Wins District 6 In 5-Set Thriller

ALTOONA -- Bishop Carroll defeated Bishop Guilfoyle three sets to two to win the District 6-A volleyball championship.

Saturday's district championship game was a grudge match between the Laurel Highlands co-champions, top two teams in District 6, and the 3rd (Guilfoyle) and 4th (Carroll) ranked teams in the state.

Bishop Guilfoyle won the first set before Bishop Carroll won the next two. The Lady Marauders won the 4th set 25-22 before the Lady Huskies jumped out to a big 5th set lead and never looked back, winning the decisive set 15-9.

Bishop Carroll will face the fourth place team out of the WPIAL in the state playoffs Tuesday at Central Cambria HS at 6:00 p.m. Bishop Guilfoyle will take on District 5 champion North Star at Somerset HS on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
