Stoystown man accused of brutally beating Marine

CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A Somerset County man is in jail and accused of brutally beating another man and breaking every bone in his face.

The mother, who did not want to be identified, said she was called on Saturday morning by the hospital about her son, David Kimmel Jr., being assaulted.

"To see your son so beaten, it's just heartbreaking, and I don't want anyone else to go through this. I want this man behind bars. I want justice," she said.

Robert Rigo, of Stoystown, is accused of beating Kimmel, according to police. Kimmel who's also a marine, was badly beaten inside a trailer at Lape Trailer Park in Holsopple.

"The victim was transported to Conemaugh Hospital for severe head and facial injuries," Conemaugh Township police officer Russ Miller said.

Doctors told his mother that the force and damage done is beyond what a punch can do.

"His jaw's broken in two places, his cheekbone, he has fractures. His nose is broken, all the little bones, and his forehead is even broken," his mother said.

Police said they are not exactly sure how or why the fight happened. However, the criminal complaint states witnesses told police that it was over a woman at the party.

A woman who lives in the trailer where the assault allegedly took place said she was in a back bedroom and did not hear anything. She said she only came out to the living area where she found the victim in a pool of blood.

"I fear for our lives. If he can do this to one person, and say that he did not do this, he'll do it to another person," the victim's mother said. "I want him sentenced to the max, whatever they could give him, because you know what it could be their son or daughter."

Rigo is in the Somerset County Jail.

According to additional online court documents, he's been charged with assault and a number of other charges in the past.

Rigo currently has two active cases against him.
