Borough votes on schedule to make decision over sale of College Heights building
By: Lauren Hensley
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Officials from Penn State have big plans for the College Heights building. They have made an offer to the State College Area School District for the building and said it would be used to house the university's press office. Penn State has entered into an agreement with the school district, however the State College Borough can choose to purchase the land as a right of refusal.
The decision about this should really be made public and openly. Unfortunately this school board, probably because they were too busy with the high school project, didn't do that and so it is up to us as We have the right of first refusal and I think we are doing the right thing, Borough Council member Peter Morris said.
Council unanimously decided on a schedule and course of action in order to make its decision. This process will include prospective buyers to present their plans in April, an open discussion and review of legal matters in May, a public hearing in June and finally a decision projected by mid-June. Members of the planning commission were asked to weigh in on their opinion.
As it stands no matter who it is sold to, they could tear it down. So it is a bit of a landmark in College Heights so we ask that they ask for some restrictions on the sale that they maintain the faade, Michael Roeckel, Planning Commission chair said.
Council announced that Penn State is not the only prospective buyer. Council said several other nonprofits have come forward with interest in purchasing the building;, this includes
Collaboration of Arts, Social Services and Education or CASE, in State College.

May 5, 2014- Allow any other interested parties to present
