Man attempts to shoot victim with shotgun

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Police are investigating an incident where a man was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal attempted homicide.

Police said they were dispatched to the 500 block of Crawford Ave., Altoona, Blair County for reported shots fired around 8:14 p.m., Saturday.

According to reports, a victim had an argument with James Dennis Petty, over what police say involved a dog running loose, and was threatened after Petty fired a single shot from a shotgun.

Police said the round went through the door to the outside as the victim and another person left through the front door.

Petty's girlfriend says Petty was attacked by one of the victims before firing the shot.

"He was probably scared for his life. The guy is alot bigger than him and he did have him on the ground," says Petty's girlfriend Annie. "I tried everything, but I'm no match for a six foot something man; but I tried to get him off of him."

Pellets from the shot gun round went through a neighbors fence and also struck a garage.

No one was hurt in the incident. Petty was transported to the Blair County Jail.

"He's not the monster they're making him out to be. He was probably scared. None of it should have happened," said Annie.

Petty was charged with two counts of criminal attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, discharge firearm into an occupied structure, terroristic threats and numerous other charges.
