Shoppers hit stores for gear before snowstorm
STATE COLLEGE, Pa.--Another storm is bringing more snow over central Pennsylvania, which has shoppers are on the hunt for winter weather necessities.
We are coming to Home Depot to get some salt just (for) around our house to help out, and some shovels and everything, Matthew Biddle, a Penn State junior, said.
Before snow and ice stacks up on sidewalks and roadways, people like Biddle are stocking up on the items they need to survive the snow.
But shoppers may find the snow gear they need is sold out. Since the last snow snowstorm hit, shovels have been a hot item. Throughout Centre County they were near impossible to find, so managers at the Home Depot had to take some extra steps to restock.
We actually had to go to Lancaster, our store down in Lancaster, got in a truck load of storm goods and we sent one of our associates down, and they picked up a truck full of shovels and are making it work, Joni Record, specialty assistant manager, said.
Another item that has been in short supply is rock salt.
"We are down to using water softener salt to accommodate salt needs. It does work on your driveway; it is just not as inexpensive as it would be as road salt is. But we are making do with what we have been able to get in and we are trying to get our customers taken care of, Record said.
