Centre Co. 911 project moving forward

BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- The new 911 operations center in Centre County is nearly 100 percent online and operational, and officials said right now work continues to get all first responders online and familiar with the new system.

Centre County 911 Director Dan Tancibok said Tuesday that work on the county's new communication system continues and in the recent weeks more police departments have been able to go online with the new network.

Tancibok said the focus now is getting the fire departments and emergency medical service providers linked together.

"It's a much more involved process, number one because there's more of them and they're spread out," Tancibok said. "Number two, they have a lot more equipment, portables [and] mobile [radios]."

Tancibok said there have been very few problems reported with the new system so far. The system should be fully operational in a few months.
