Cambria Co. man accused of choking 5-year-old girl

By: Melanie Gillespie and WJAC Web Staff

CARROLLTOWN, Pa. -- Police agencies in Cambria County have apprehended a man they believe choked his stepdaughter.

Carrolltown police received a call from the victim's grandparents last week, that their granddaughter was allegedly assaulted.

The girl, who is 5, had bruises on her neck and police believe Brett Lysic is responsible.

Police said the alleged incident happened on Reed Street in Bakerton near Carrolltown.

According to a criminal complaint, the girl told her grandparents that the marks on her neck were from her stepfather.

The victim told police she was chasing her little brother around the house trying to tickle him.

She told the officer that her dad, Lysic, became angry and grabbed her by the neck because she was being too loud when he was trying to sleep.

A relative said she was not surprised by this.

She said the family reported a similar incident two years ago, but nothing further was done.

Neighbors living nearby said they do not know much about Lysic, but said they see him coming and going from the house.

Lysic was arrested by state constables Thursday morning and taken to the Cambria County prison.
