Police: Motorist hits pedestrian, then gets hit by another vehicle while getting out of vehicle

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Police in Centre County are investigating the circumstances that led to two car-pedestrian accidents in downtown State College.

State College police said a man driving through the Atherton Street and College Avenue intersection struck a woman crossing at the intersection at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. The woman was crossing in a crosswalk and had the right of way, investigators said.

Police said when that man stopped to get out of his car to help the woman he hit, he was then struck by another vehicle driving through the intersection.

Both people who were hit were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for moderate injuries. The names of those involved were not released.

Police would not comment on possible charges or citations pending from the accidents.
