Centre Co. man facing more than 1,000 child sex assault charges

By: Marc Stempka

SPRING TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A Centre County man is facing more than 1,200 counts of child sexual abuse in a case that police say is one of the worst investigators have seen.

Spring Township police arrested Eric Crader, 33, of Pleasant Gap, charging him with 1,278 counts of child sexual abuse charges for the alleged incidents that spanned years, some dating back to 2011.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators said the abuse accusations came to light following a lecture about inappropriate touching that was held at one of the victim's elementary school. Police said Crader and the victims knew each other.

Police said following the lecture, an 8-year-old girl told guidance counselors that she and her 10-year-old sister were being molested and that the abuse happened for at least two years.

Crader is facing 213 counts each of rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of child, sexual assault and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, police said.

Crader was placed in the Centre County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bail.
