Altoona police continue to warn about vehicle break-ins

By: WJAC Web Staff

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Police in Blair County are continuing to warn residents to be watchful in their neighborhoods as some communities are seeing a spike in vehicle break-ins and thefts.

Altoona police said vehicle break-ins continue to be reported throughout the city and appear to be concentrated in a particular area one evening, then move to another area within days.

Police said the thief or thieves have got into the vehicles be opening unlocked doors or smashing windows.

Neighbors have reported to police seeing a very tall man in the areas of the break-ins, and footprints in those areas are leading investigators to believe the man wears size 12 or 13 shoes, police said.

In addition to the vehicle break-ins, police said homes have been broken into by using garage door openers found in vehicles.

Several items have been stolen from vehicles, ranging from money and GPS units, to bags and firearms, police said.

Police encourage anyone with information about the break-ins to contact them at 814-949-2489 or privately message the department on their Facebook page.
