Deputy coroner killed in Somerset Co. crash

By: WJAC Web Staff

MILFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A Somerset County official died following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning, caused by icy road conditions, officials said.

Officals said Somerset County Deputy Coroner James Hahn was killed when the car he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle on Water Level Road in Milford Township at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

State police at Somerset said the crash happened when a 17-year-old male driving the other way lost control on the icy road and crossed into the other lane, hitting Hahn's car.

Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller said Hahn was also a retired Somerset borough police officer. Miller said Hahn, 73, had retired from the police force in 2006 before joining the coroner's office.

The road was closed for hours as police investigated the crash.

Police said the teenage driver suffered moderate injuries.
