UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Universitys Bryce Jordan Center will be closed for repairs throughout the summer to complete some much needed repair work, school officials have announced.
Bernie Punt, the arena's director of marketing and sales said roof and floor repairs need to be completed, as well as masonry and lighting projects. The facility is 19 years old.
WJAC-TV news partner the Centre Daily Times reported university officials said the BJC will close following spring commencement on May 10 and won't reopen until Aug. 16, in time for summer commencement.
Punt said bids for the work are still being reviewed and the Office of the Physical Plant said the work will cost approximately $4.5 million.
Due to the construction, State College Area High School will move their June graduation ceremonies to the next door Pegula Ice Arena. That is the only event needing to be changed due to the construction.
