Man accused of assault jumps into river to elude police

FRANKLIN, Pa. -- Police in Cambria County said a man assaulted another man and then jumped into a nearby stream to try to get away from police.

East Conemaugh police said Clinton Edwards, 29, assaulted the man with a weapon on the 1100 block of Main Street in Franklin Borough a little after 5 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Edwards tried to steal a car and punch the driver before the he jumped into Clapbord Run in an effort to run away.

Edwards faces a half-dozen charges, including robbery, resisting arrest and other charges.

Police continue to investigate the alleged assault.
