Woman charged with third-degree murder in fatal 2012 crash

BENNER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- State police have arrested and filed charges against a Centre County woman who they said was high when she crashed the vehicle she was driving into another vehicle, killing the driver.
State police at Rockview filed charges against Danielle Packer, 22, of Bellefonte, on Wednesday. She faces 18 charges, including third-degree murder, homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and other traffic violations.
Police said Packer crashed her Chevrolet Trailblazer into Matthew Snyder's Hyundai Accent at about 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 6, 2012, at the intersection of Route 150 and Rockview Road in Benner Township.
Snyder, 25, of Howard, died at the scene.
At the time of the crash, investigating troopers said Packer was "distracted," causing her to drift into the oncoming lane and collide head-on with Snyder's vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, Packer had been huffing aerosol cleaner earlier in the evening before getting behind the wheel.
Packer suffered minor injuries in the crash and a passenger in her vehicle, Julian Shutak, of Maryland, was not injured.
Packer is expected to be in court for a preliminary hearing Feb. 26, court documents showed. She is in the Centre County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bail.
