By: WJAC Web Staff
PORTAGE, Pa. -- A performance audit of the Portage Area School District determined that the district complied in all significant respects with relevant requirements except failure to develop new memorandums of understanding with local law enforcement agencies.
The purpose of the audit is to allow the Pennsylvania Department of Auditor General determine if state funds are being used according to guidelines that are set in place.
In the audit, the district is questioned with information regarding certain state laws, regulations, contracts, grant requirements and administrative procedures.
The audit was completed Oct. 24, 2013, and was started Feb. 26, 2010, almost a three-year long process.
In regards to the recommendations to the district, they did take the appropriate action plan in implementing the new recommendations to receive a certification.
The topic they failed to cover was to develop new memorandums with local law enforcement agencies.
This specifically means there is an agreement with the local police departments to have the authority to come onto school property when necessary. They failed to have this renewed and resigned.
Eventually, the district replied saying they will have a new memorandum with approval by the board of directors that took place at their meeting Wednesday. At which that time a copy of the new, signed agreement would be implemented. Also that the local police departments and the PSP would have the MoU renew every two years.
