Man charged with beating, shaking and stepping on dog

SOUTH FORK, Pa. -- Police plan to file charges against a Cambria County man on suspicion of abusing two dogs, including slamming one of the dog's heads off of the side of a house.

State police at Ebensburg said Matthew Gibala, 31, of Grant Street in South Fork, on two counts of cruelty to animals and a count of disorderly conduct.

Police said on Monday night that Gibala abused a small female mini-pincher and "repeatedly kicked, punched and stepped on the dogs neck." Police said he then picked up the dog by its hind legs and shook it "before slamming the dog's head into the side of the house."

Police said the incident was recorded on video and happened in front of Gibala's three young children.

The mini-pincher and another mix-breed dog were removed from Gibala's home by the Cambria County Humane Society, police said. Both dogs showed injuries consistent with abuse.

Police said Gibala will be responsible for all of the dog's medical costs.

Gibala is not yet in police custody.
