CLEARFIELD, Pa. -- The Clearfield YMCA has appliances that are about half a century old.

Now with a $25,000 grant from Walmart, they will be able to replace those old appliances with brand new ones.

Nancy Williams runs the child day care center at the Clearfield YMCA and everyday it is up to her to get 52 children fed.

"We provide not only lunch and breakfast every day for the kids, but two snacks as well," said Donald Herres, director at Clearfield YMCA.

With appliances like a stove that dates back to the 1950s, they knew it was time for a renovation.

"We've been going through renovations here for the last couple of years and the kitchen is really one of the main features that we need to have a child care program, said Herres.

Williams, along with the help of a few colleagues, wrote a grant asking Walmart for help and that is just what they received; $25,000.

"One of the companys focuses is to advance better nutrition for children," said manager Clearfield Walmart, Josh Kunkel. "Make it more accessible and we feel like this grant will help the YMCA be able to do that."

"Pretty much everything is lined up, al were waiting for is to put it into action," said Kunkel.

Williams said it may be a long shot but they hope to have the renovations complete within the next six to eight weeks. It will not be ready for this year's Winter Fest, but it should be up and running for next years event.
