Coach Franklin meets trustees

By: WJAC Web Staff

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- James Franklin made an appearance at the trustees meeting Friday.

He did not stay long but he impressed many, including the university administrators on hand.

Since being named as the new Penn State football coach, Franklin had a busy schedule.

Trustees Friday met him and Franklin took some time to clarify a comment and promise he made last weekend.

I want to stress no one will work harder to make you guys proud, said Franklin.

Last Saturday during his introductory press conference, Franklin talked about a unique outreach approach and admitted its resulted in a lot of phone calls.

If your kids is having a birthday party and needs somebody to blow up balloons in the backyard, Ill be there, said Franklin. I got a lot of compliments about the press conference but thats the one mistake I made. Ive received 4,500 calls for birthday parties, but were trying to stress well work hard to make everybody proud.

Franklin is to be back on campus Friday after recruiting trips in recent days to both
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

The trustees are to meet at the Penn State conference center Friday and Franklin had lunch there before the meeting.

6News has been told that the kitchen staff at the restaurant wanted to meet him so Franklin took the time to go through the kitchen shaking hands there, before going to the trustees meeting.
