Smoking to be banned in county buildings

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. -- Centre County government buildings will no longer allow the public to smoke inside the buildings or on the grounds.

The county commissioners Thursday morning decided to adopt the no smoking policy for all county owned buildings and property.

The smoking ban is to take effect on April 1 with programs that are to be offered to help those trying to stop smoking.

We need to raise enough discomfort to hopefully get half of those people to quit, said Centre Co. commissioner Chris Exarchos.  Then its been a success.

Along with promoting a healthy workplace the commissioners say the smoking ban will help cut health care costs.
