IRVONA, Pa. -- State police are investigating a robbery at a dollar store in Clearfield County, saying the robber ran off with a cash register after not being able to get it open.

State police at Clearfield said the robbery happened at about 8:15 p.m. Monday at the Dollar General at 1677 Dorsey Ave. in Irvona.

Police said a man entered the store and poked a customer who was checking out with what appeared to be a gun that was inside of a bag. Police said the man told the customer to get moving, at which time the customer and cashier ran to the back of the store.

Police said the man then tried to open the cash register by pushing buttons, but after failing to get it open, took the register and ran out the door.

Police said the man was approximately 6 feet tall, weighing around 200 pounds, and last seen wearing a tan coat, dark pants, boots and a ski mask.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact state police at Clearfield at 814-857-3800.
