BIGLERVILLE, Pa. -- At least two people have been confirmed dead in a small-plane crash in south-central Pennsylvania, authorities said.

State police said autopsies were scheduled for the victims on Friday, but dental records and perhaps DNA may be needed to help identify the victims.

Police said the plane was a Piper PA30 Twin Comanche. The planes flight plan has not yet been released.

The crash was reported at about 6 a.m. Thursday in the area of Route 234 in Butler Township, Adams County, in the Biglerville area north of Gettysburg.

Police said the debris field was at least a quarter-mile long.

Police said the plane was destroyed, but there were no signs of an explosion or fire.

Investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were called to the scene to investigate the crash.
