Local Marine surprises his daughter for Thanksgiving

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- One little girl who thought her Thanksgiving would be spent without her father had a great surprise.

Michael Gokey was deployed overseas for four months.

He has been deployed before but this was the first time he was away from family.

He wanted to surprise his daughter at school and made a great appearance.

Daddy, said Audrey Gokey.

You could watch this moment over and over again, Audrey Gokey jumping into her fathers arms.

I mean I cant describe it when you get to see your daughter for the first time in four months,  said Gokey.

Gokeys original plan was to surprise Audrey in her classroom.

When she first walked out, she didn't realize it was him and so I touched her back and said Audrey its OK, you can go, said Debra Winn, Audreys teacher. She just ran up and jumped into his arms, it was incredible.

The school principal and teachers helped plan the surprise. Students filled the gym holding posters.

Audrey's class wrote Gokey letters oversees eventually meeting the Marine behind the letters.

So I go to read them and share them with my fellow marines, said Gokey.

Students and faculty are thanking troops this holiday season.

This was just the best surprise ever, for all of us, it was just wonderful, said Winn.

Gokey is on leave for a couple weeks and he goes back to work.

He is stationed in New Jersey and says he will not be deployed again in the near future.
