Rockview prison attack investigation continues
By Gary Sinderson
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. There are still a lot more questions than answers about the brutal attack of a state prison employee by an inmate this past July at the Rockview State Prison.
Even state lawmakers who have been calling for an investigation said they are not certain what will be released.
The main question remains, how did this happen? According to police, a Rockview inmate was in the victims prison office for nearly a half hour where the inmate not only raped her, but knocked her unconscious.
Even Governor Corbett called for an investigation.
Its been more than three months after the attack and now were told we may get more on that investigation in a few weeks.
Inmate Omar Best is headed to trial on charges of raping and beating the victim who was working in a Rockview housing office when police say she was attacked by Best.
State Representative Kerry Benninghoff expects another update from the department of corrections within a week or two, but said he isnt certain how detailed it will be.
I dont know. I hear from people, maybe not interested in the details of what happened, Benninghoff said, but what its going to mean in terms of the future.
The department is already considering moving prison and clerical workers to other, more secure locations.
Best was transferred to a state prison in Huntingdon.
